Luthuli was born in Botha’s Hill, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in 1991 and attended Thornwood Secondary School.
In 2010 he joined the BAT Centre visual art programme where he was encouraged to explore and develop his creativity.
In 2011 Luthuli enrolled for the Velobala Saturday Art Classes hosted by the African Art Centre at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Due to his commitment and overt talent he was selected to further take part in the Velobala Mentorship Programme in 2012 where he was mentored by Themba Shibase, artist and fine art lecturer at DUT.
Luthuli is inspired by artists including Edward Hopper, Gerald Sekoto, Ephraim Ngatane, Osuwa Nkomo and Yinka Shonibare.
2011 to present he has participated in group exhibitions in KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg, and in Bremen, Germany where he completed a mural project in the Concordia Tunnel.
His work is represented in private and corporate collections and in the collection of the Leiterin der Stadtischen Galerie in Bremen, Germany.
In 2017 Luthuli was placed runner up in the Sasol New Signatures competition, selected to take part in a 3-month residency in Germany, and also had work acquired by the National Art Bank.
