"Afriart Gallery is a leading contemporary art gallery situated in Kampala Uganda. The artists represented by the gallery are responsible for the transformation of Uganda’s art landscape.
The gallery was founded in 2002 by art director Daudi Karungi. It focuses on the promotion of contemporary art from Uganda and the East African region as well as forging collaborations among artists in Africa and beyond. The gallery artists have been featured in major international exhibitions, art auctions, Biennales, and Art Fairs.
Afriart gallery seeks to enrich the knowledge of its visitors about contemporary African art and provide the most varied selection for the enthusiastic art collector in the gallery’s permanent collection. Apart from exhibitions, Afriart has some exciting programs ranging from Art Education to art consultancy and public space design.
DESCRIPTION OF 2019 BOOTH AND EXHIBITING ARTISTS
Afriart will exhibit, at the inaugural LATITUDES Art Fair 2019, a selection of some of the leading artists from East Africa. They will present new works by Ugandan artists Sanaa Gateja and Stacey Gillian Abe who are both known in Johannesburg, and will also introduce two young artists John Baptist Ssekubulwa (Uganda) and Sungi Mlengeya (Tanzania).
