Founded in 2003 by Jutta and Joachim Melchers, ARTCO evolved from an art agency into a gallery in 2005. Based in Aachen, Germany, ARTCO Gallery is situated close to Cologne, Dusseldorf, as well as bordering Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2018 ARTCO opened a studio space in Cape Town, South Africa and in 2019 the gallery is also located in Berlin, Germany.
ARTCO Gallery represents a selection of international artists who have particular interest in painting and photography. Its main focus is the presentation of already established and emerging talented artists with an African background. The gallery participates in a number of international fairs in Europe, the United States and South Africa, seeking to bring art from the continent to the widest possible audience. In addition to its program of solo shows and group exhibitions, ARTCO Gallery regularly publishes artist monographs and exhibition catalogues.
ARTCO has been exhibiting at South African art fairs for the past ten years. The art market in this country is very well developed and remains the most important one on the continent.
At LATITUDES ART FAIR the gallery will be present with a solo show "The Colour of Memory", a collaboration by the artist and human rights activist Marcelo Brodsky from Argentina and the South Africa born photographer Gideon Mendel.
At another booth there will be on display "in conversation" - a brand new body of work by Johannesburg based photographer Justin Dingwall, large opulent mixed media collages by Marion Boehm and textile collages by the young Ghanaian artist Raphael Adjetey Mayne.
